I always feel a conscientious blogger should follow up a deep, thoughtful, heartfelt post with a completely frivolous one. So here’s my frivolous one.
If you, like me, got waaayyyy too tired of that James Blunt “You’re Beautiful” song a year or so ago … here are a couple of parodies of it (with accompanying YouTube videos, not always made by the same people who produced the parody) that make me laugh and laugh.
First up … “My Cubicle.” Especially for all those cube-workers out there!
But that’s not all … I have more!
And now, from the Master of Parodies (though this is not his video; it’s somebody else lip-synching his song) Weird Al … I’m sorry to say there are actual people I think of when I hear “You’re Pitiful.”
Finally … I think this may be my favourite. It’s the actual James Blunt video and song, but with voice-over commentary by a hilarious Australian guy (bit of a language warning on this one):
There ya go.

This song bothered me right from the beginning, mostly because of the lyrics. He starts out by falling in love with a woman on a train, explains that she is with another man, “but that’s okay” he says, “because I’ve got a plan”.
According to the rest of the song, the “plan”, apparently, is to stand around whining about how he’ll probably never see her again and he doesn’t know what to do. Excuse me, but WHAT KIND OF FREAKIN’ PLAN IS THAT?!
Wait a minute…I just realized that the whole sitting around doing nothing but whining about life is pretty much MY plan too.
Darn.

I always assumed the plan was to write a hit song about this random encounter and become freakishly rich. Maybe you should try that.

The cubicle song hit a little too close to work.
